
Derrick Kwan currently served as Director of the Coding for Humanity Coalition (2025-26), following his term as a Board Member (2024-25), on the student board of the STEM for Humanity Coalition.
Derrick is passionate about applying his engineering and coding skills to drive positive societal change. He has earned top rankings and medals in various coding competitions, including Codeforces, the UC Berkeley California Informatics Competition (CALICO), and the American Computer Science League (ACSL). He has also conducted extensive research projects, from quantum physics and quantum computing to developing AI machine learning models for the early detection of Alzheimer Disease. At school, he co-founded and serves as co-vice president of the competitive coding club. He shares his expertise globally by teaching coding to both high school students and adults through Stanford Coding Place.
Beyond academics, Derrick enjoys swimming and acting. He holds the top rank on his high school’s swim team and has performed in short movies as well as student advertising projects.
